Shops and establishments Acts

Each State's Shops and Establishments Act covers registration, opening hours, weekly holidays, leave and the employment of women at night for shops, offices and commercial establishments.

The State Shops and Establishments Acts continue alongside the Codes. They usually cover:

  • Registration or intimation: online, often a one-time registration (for example under the Maharashtra Act of 2017 with 10 or more workers).
  • Hours: daily and weekly hours, spread-over, opening and closing times. Many States now allow 24×7 working.
  • Holidays and leave: a weekly holiday, festival holidays, and casual, sick and earned leave.
  • Women at night: permitted with consent, safety and transport.
  • Records: registers, and display of the registration certificate.

The HR desk's Settings let you enter State holidays and leave types.
