State welfare boards for workers

Building workers' boards, labour welfare funds and State unorganised-worker boards run schemes for education, marriage, maternity, accident, pension and housing. The benefits differ by State.

  • BOCW welfare boards: every State has one, funded by the construction cess. A registered building worker (18–60, with 90 days' work in 12 months) gets benefits such as:
    • accident and death assistance;
    • pension;
    • maternity;
    • children's education and marriage;
    • tools and housing loans.
  • Labour Welfare Fund boards: in States with an LWF law (for example Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana). Contributions are deducted from wages twice a year or once a year. They fund scholarships, medical help, holiday homes and training.
  • State unorganised workers' boards and schemes: for example, schemes for domestic workers, transport workers, auto-rickshaw drivers and street vendors.
